Bush and Beach Family Experience

Day 1 & 2: Nairobi

On arrival at the Jomo Kenyatta international airport, you will be met by your driver and transferred to your pre-arranged accommodation in Nairobi. The next day explore the city of Nairobi. You could visit the National museum for an oversight of Kenya; spend some time with orphaned baby elephants at the David Sheldrick elephant orphanage or better still hand feed giraffes at the giraffe centre. (B,)

Day 3: Nyeri Town

Today morning after breakfast, we undertake a 2-3 hours drive through Central Kenya with picturesque views of the expansive pineapple plantations of Thika as well as coffee and tea farms. Central Kenya is one of the bread baskets of Kenya. During the drive, we could make a couple of stops to sample some of the merchandise of the fresh fruit vendors. Arrive at the Outspan hotel in Nyeri for lunch. An afternoon at leisure to explore the lush gardens of the hotel or maybe venture into the town of Nyeri (the home town of our current president) for a tour of this bustling agricultural town in the company of our guide. Better still we could visit a couple of tea and coffee farms. Dinner and overnight Outspan hotel. (B,L,D)

Day 4: Aberdares National Park

After breakfast, we get our picnic lunch and hop into our vehicle for a full day of exploring the awesome Aberdares National Park. Aberdares has a diverse topography that includes icy rivers, spectacular waterfalls and rain forests. The flora and fauna is quite unique and is not found elsewhere in the country, expect on Mount Kenya. Elephant, rhino, leopard, bushbuck and occasionally the elusive bongo may all feature in our sighting list as well as a host of other colorful forest birds. Return to Outspan hotel for dinner and overnight stay. (B,L,D)

Day 5: Naivasha

Today, a 3-4 hours drive down the scenic Great Rift valley with a stop at Thompson falls to marvel at the equator gets us to Lake Naivasha checking in for lunch at the Malu Cottages a top hill with views of the Lake. Afternoon siesta after which you may engage in a nature/bird walk, or an evening horseback ride around the farm. Dinner and Overnight at Malu. (B, L, D)

Day 6: Naivasha

A full day in Naivasha. We explore Hells Gate National Park with the option of doing a cycling or trekking. This is best done during morning hours as it can get quite hot in the afternoon. Explore the hot springs in the gorge followed by picnic lunch. Exit the park through Olkaria Geothermal Power station heading for Lake Oloiden to catch a glimpse of flamingoes and other bird species. We could also arrange a visit to one of the flower farms to get an insight into the vast horticultural industry that is the lifeline of Naivasha. The beautiful roses and carnations produced in this area are shipped to Europe every day. Finish of today’s outdoor activity with an evening boat ride at Lake Naivasha before heading back to Malu for Dinner and Overnight (B, L, D)

Day 7: Maasai Mara Game Reserve

Today after breakfast, a 5 hours drive gets us to the world-renowned Maasai Mara game reserve. We check in at the Sekenani Camp in time for lunch. Afternoon at leisure for a siesta or a nature walk around the camp. At 4PM, we set out for an evening game drive for a glimpse of what the Mara has to offer. Return to the camp for a refreshing shower, dinner and overnight stay. (B, L, D)

Day 8: Maasai Mara Game Reserve

Awake to the natural sights and sounds of Mara. Today, on our morning and evening game drives, we delve into the pristine wilderness, visiting some of the most coveted scenic sites with award-winning photographic opportunities; from the game studded plains to the little hills and sentry termite mounds down to the rumbling Mara River all in hunt of wildlife! This is where you can see elephant, buffalo, lion, cheetah, leopard, zebra, giraffe, hippo, crocodile and a whole ark-full of other animals. Meals and overnight Ol moran tented camp. (B, L,D)

Days 9,10,11 and 12: Diani

Wake up to the symphony of natural bird life as the bush comes alive. After breakfast, we visit a local Maasai cultural village, one of Africa’s flagship communities where you get to interact with the community guides, interpreters and elders. On showcase are dances, folklore, fire making techniques and lots of cultural activities that make us realize learn how different (and yet how similar) their everyday life is to ours. Lunch and transfer to the airstrip for your 2PM flight to the beach resort town of Diani. Capping off a week of breath-taking safari, we check in at the Baobab beach resort and spa, our spot for the next four days. After all the bush and game, you ought to slow down, shake off the safari dust and just relax. You may swim in the warm waters of the Indian Ocean, bask on the white sandy beach, jet ski, scuba dive and windsurf. Overnight Baobab beach resort and spa. (AI)

Day 13: Diani - Nairobi

Greet your last day in Diani with a hearty breakfast followed by any last-minute beach combing and shopping. After an early lunch transfer, back to airstrip for your 4PM flight back to Nairobi for an overnight stay to relax and say good bye to your Kenyan friends. (B,L)
